TO PIMP A BUTTERFLY Album REDESIGN
Project Brief
For this project I reimagine Kendrick Lamar’s To Pimp a Butterfly for its 10th anniversary. My goal is to create a visual identity reflecting the album’s legacy as a modern classic in hip-hop, while honoring its impact on music and culture. I want the themes of empowerment, political struggle, and self-reflection to guide my design decisions, ultimately presenting the album in a new visual form that still respects everything it stands for.
Target Audience
The target audience includes Kendrick Lamar fans and hip-hop listeners ages 18–40 who recognize To Pimp a Butterfly as a cultural and musical landmark. I'm also targeting music collectors, vinyl enthusiasts, and design-conscious creatives who value powerful visual storytelling. Additionally, the project speaks to socially conscious audiences and professionals in the music and design industries who understand the album’s lasting influence on Black identity, political discourse, and modern hip-hop history.

Initial Designs
Before reaching my final cover design, I went through several different iterations. Each design focused on a distinct type of design. As a result, I created an illustrative edition, a typography edition, and a photo edition of the album.
